Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade

Awards for All (A4A) is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of lottery good cause funders like Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. In England A4A makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass roots community groups and voluntary organizations.

In March 2007 A4A launched a website – Abolition 200 (http://abolition200.org.uk/) – dedicated to promoting Bicentenary events throughout the year.

With support from the Museums Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and developed with the 24 Hour Museum, the site offers information about funding opportunities and gives an online profile to groups, communities and organisations involved in commemorating the Bicentenary.

Site users can:

• Upload event details to a searchable database
• Read featured stories and link to highlighted information
• Apply for Award for All grants for Bicentenary commemoration events/exhibitions
• Search for bicentenary events in their area
• Access a special area for teachers and schools

To get your event or exhibition included on the site enter details into the database using the Direct Data Entry system (DDE). If you are already a DDE user, you’ll find there’s simply a new ‘tick-box’ to use to tag your Abolition 200 commemorative event listing. Log-in at: www.24hourmuseum.net/production/dataentry
