2025 Conference

Community voices, community heritage - preserving, sharing & celebrating diverse histories and traditions

On the occasion of the first Community Archives and Heritage Group (CAHG) conference to be held in the north of England, this conference will examine how communities and community members work to preserve and make accessible local and community histories and traditions, including both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The focal point of the conference will be presentations from groups from the North of England and wider afield demonstrating how they engage community members and the wider public with historical documents and photographs, storytelling, oral histories, song, knowledge practices and crafts online and in person.

The conference will focus on how communities control their own histories and traditions by taking the lead on community heritage work - although some presentations will also describe how community groups can also fruitfully collaborate with local museums, libraries, and archives. The conference will feature skills workshops and a ‘market place and hub’ - a space where you can showcase your work  - with stalls, displays, poster sessions and plenty of networking opportunities.

If you would be interested in your group participating in the conference in any of these ways, please contact the CAHG Conference team at conference@communityarchives.org.uk to register your interest (before the end of March)
