Scilly Memories
Started in 2014, Scilly Memories, better known as ‘The Very Scilly Memory Page’ is a community group for islanders and visitors alike to share old memories of The Isles of Scilly, UK.
The group comprises of over 3500 members who share photos, videos, other media and memories all relating to Isles of Scilly history to the groups website.
Members also have the option of contacting the group’s archive leader who can scan images and digitise video for either their personal use or (preferably) shared with the rest of the group; with the option of adding the digital versions to the group’s archive which eventually is handed to the St Mary’s Museum.
The ever growing Scilly archive for the group is currently in storage and consists of over 100 VHS, VHS-C and 8mm cassettes and covering local events from the mid 80s to the early 00s. Well over 30,000 slides and negatives covering history from around the 50s through to the early 00s. Over 8000ft of 8mm/9.5mm cinereel which covers mostly the 60s and 70s in Scilly. Now all digitised and progressively being uploaded for the public, which is the ultimate aim. Preserve and make Scilly history accessible and available to all, free. In addition there is an almost complete collection of Scilly Up To Date Magazine, Scillonian Magazine complete from 1957-2006 and a large library of local books.
Postcards, of course, are not forgotton we have an extensive digital archive of Gibsons, C J kings, Judges, photochromes and many more.
Ordinarily the pictoral media is regularly transferred to the local St Mary’s Museum (currently closed as new premises are found).
