Our Welwyn Garden City
Our Welwyn Garden City is part of the Herts Memories network of community archives. It has been funded by the Heritage Lottery fund as part of hte Making Memories project.
Welwyn Garden City is one of two garden cities in Hertfordshire. The first resident, Molly Jennings, arrived in 1920 to the sight of ‘opencountry for miles and miles’, to buy land at £60 per acre. Since then, the town has grown beyond its original boundaries, but retains its essential character as a garden city.
Our Welwyn Garden city has been developed by local volunteers in partnership with the local library. As well as collecting local memories, the site will showcasing the house history research produced by the Heritage Lottery funded ‘Where do You Think you Live?’ project.
