Braunstone Heritage Archive Group
The Braunstone Heritage Archive Group is recording the history of Braunstone, Leicestershire, from prehistory to the present day.
Our group was formed in 2011 after a response from the Town Clerk “to clear the loft space of rubbish”. The rubbish was 16 decaying boxes from a 1974 history event containing over 200 artefacts,130 documents, 70 card display boards of events, 220 photographs and various newspaper cuttings.
Since 2011 we have catalogued and preserved these items. We are aiming for Museum Accreditation and we follow the quality management systems standards of ISO 9000.
Over 20 members meet once a week and several members meet, for practical work on their project, in our new workroom and storage facility.
Our group has established annual history events, exhibitions and we work closely on joint projects with our “sister” group, the Braunstone History Group, in the city part of Braunstone.
An award-winning project
The Braunstone Heritage Archive won the 2018 Community Archives and Heritage Group award for Collecting Heritage.
