SWiB came out of an HLF grant and the Plymouth Barbican Association’s (PBA), which has successfully preserved and maintains many pre-war properties in Plymouth, 50th anniversary celebrations. As a consequence of the growing number of images of Plymouth’s history, the Directors of the Association set up SWiB to hold a ‘life in pictures’, housed in a PBA restored grade II Elizabethan listed building in Looe Street, Plymouth. To complement the holding of these images in the building it was thought best to have it online too – so that more people could get access to Plymouths’ past.
Well, you can now access images of life in Plymouth , as well as Devon and Cornwall , online. The image Bank provides an accessible way for the public to engage with images relating to the people and places in Plymouth ‘s past. All catalogued, scanned and preserved thanks to the help of the many volunteers who work with Stacey Dyer (Archive Manager, SWiB) to get the image bank up and running.
