The Weardale Museum
The Weardale Museum is an accredited but small, volunteer run, folk museum whose mission is to preserve and protect the history and heritage of this area of County Durham. We rely on the local commuity for volunteers and for helping to run the museum.
We hold a large number of artefacts relating to the area including domestic and social life, industry, farming, emigration, religion and family history. Our archive collection includes maps, record books and letters as well as family trees sent to us from all over the world.
Our Weardale People database holds information on about 75,000 individuals and 700 inter-related Weardale families. We have an archive of over 700 digital and printed photographs.
Other objects include prehistoric, Roman medieval as well as 18th and 19th centuries.
