Our Oxhey
Our Oxhey is part of the Herts Memories network of community archives. It has been funded by the Heritage Lottery fund through the Making Memmories project.
The loss of residential accomodation in London as a result of enemy bombing during the Second World War lead to huge pressures on housing in and around London. The Oxhey Estate arose as a direct response to this situation. It was one of the council estates that grew up rapidly on green-field sites at this time. Accommodation for 4,000 families was constructed between 1947 and 1952. Many Oxhey residents grew up on the estates of that time and have not, until now, had an opportunity to record their memories.
The website has been developed by local volunteers in partnership with the local library.
