Milverton, England, United Kingdom
The Milverton & District Archive has been collecting all things connected with Milverton, including memories, artefacts, photos, written history and maps, for over 50 years.
We are in the early stages of digitalising the catalogue which has over 1500 entries, although some of these are photo copies of original material from the nearby Somerset Heritage Centre.
Three books have been written about Milverton. We have an extensive map collection including the actual maps used during WW11 to map the farm land and the owners .
The collection holds the Old Poor Rate Ledger which begins in 1802, the Out Pay Ledger which begins in 1817 and the Charities Ledger from 1844.
Our oldest photograph is 1887 Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and one actually shows our Village Hall being built. Most photos, though, are family photos from the 20th C.
A small part of our collection is on display in the parish church.
The Local History Group supports the Archive, and a volunteer records the memories of the long time residents using a camcorder. Copies of these recordings are made which can be shared with the families and also, with permission, the public.
