Pilton, Somerset, England, United Kingdom

Pilton Village History Group was formed in the early 1980s by a group of villagers who were keen to start collecting and preserving documents, photos and items relating to Pilton and its past, and to capture memories from long-standing residents.

The group’s objects are “to collect and collate matters of interest relating to the Parish of Pilton, and to foster interest in the history of the village and its surroundings.” Over the years since then, the archive has grown to become a really significant size, with approximately one thousand documents and double this number of images. The group meets regularly and currently has around 70 members.

Now with support from The Heritage Lottery Fund in 2024, the group has been able to create a website and begin to digitise the extensive archives making these available to everyone to browse and to preserve them for the future. This is very much an ongoing project.
