Magnetic Tape Alert Project Survey

A joint project between UNESCO and IASA (International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives) is surveying the world’s magnetic tape collections: the Magnetic Tape Alert Project.

At great risk of decay and obsolescence

The project is seeking the assistance of individuals and organisations (large and small)  who are engaged in archiving or studying sound and audiovisual content recorded on magnetic tapes (music, endangered languages, folklore, rituals, dance, oral history, etc). The researchers would like to know more about collections that contain this media format, and learn how they are being cared for and digitised. As you may be aware, this particular medium is at great risk of decay and obsolescence, yet it holds a great deal of our world's audio-visual heritage.
